philly aids thrift
i just finished some production work for the philadelphia aids thrift, in the form of two signs advertising the 'dollar room'. they truly promote/support a noble cause, and the store is stocked full of genuine people and far-out second hand treasures. you should drop by and buy some stuff, or volunteer, or even donate things or money, DO IT. while you're there, you can check out these beauties on the second floor. the signs are 1" pine, acrylic paint, wood stain and polyurethane.

caturday
cats have seized control of my mind. first, i constructed, from scratch, a giant cat tower / condo / tree jawn. now, i memorialize them in acrylic paint on scrap wood.

bikini atoll
sorry i haven't rapped at you in awhile, but i've been busy getting laid off and visiting far-off locales. this little slice of velvet was a gift from my friend rachel gallo, who's having an art show at sweet jane vintage, 1820 e. passyunk, in gorgeous south philadelphia, this august the 13th. methinks the shin-dig starts at 6pm and should include refreshments- check it out! rachel you can pick up this new and improved 2nd-hand treasure whenever you want.

letterpress
"I, Benjamin Franklin, of Philadelphia, printer, late Minister Plenipotentiary from the United States of America to the Court of France, now President of the State of Pennsylvania, do make and declare my last will and testament as follows:..."
think about the lifetime achievements of ben franklin, his numerous inventions, the establishment of the post office, yet the title that is first in his will is: printer. the graphic arts are near and dear to me, and i've spent some time of late getting acquainted with his end of the trade, movable type. i can tell you that compositing and setting the type is a labor intensive, cursing the sky, journey into madness kind o' adventure. i'm really just a sucker for archaic, arcane shit. my partner in crime, dan platt, is the proud owner of a showcard press model se-5, a hernia inducing piece of iron on which we produced the mighty fest 8 poster-
i drew this guy and had a flexo plate made, which we mounted on mdf board to get that magical .918". stay tuned for some other fly posters we've made, and some new paintings, too.
until next time,
geoff

america the beautiful
i spent many a year criss-crossing this great land of ours, and one of the most ubiquitous roadside attractions is walmart. it's not an exaggeration to say that walmart has gutted small town life in the united states ; as walmart was pleased to announce in 2010, 'no one will beat us on price' -no mom and pop shop can. even more important than voting is where and how you spend your money, so take a stand, albeit a small one, for common decency... don't shop at walmart.
the original painting was a gift from my beautiful wife, and is another paint-by-numbers masterpiece, complete with goodwill pricetags on the back. she sure knows the way to a man's heart..
